If the Linux kernel is to blame, I'll not only eat my hat, I'll get down on my knees and personally kiss Matthew Garrett's ass, and the asses of every Foxconn employee there.

The idea that it's the kernel is simply ludicrous, especially after their stunt this morning.

This whole situation upsets me a bit. Inciting others to harrass and flood Foxconn over Linux support they don't advertise isn't going to endear you with hardware vendors. They're certainly not going to give out engineering support contact information if they expect it will be flooded with irate people at basically random points in time. If it turns out that this bug is entirely the Linux kernel's fault, then who exactly apologizes to Foxconn?

The amount of emotional investment people have regarding this is also scary; never attribute to malice what can be explained by mere incompetence. My Toshiba laptop doesn't work perfectly with Ubuntu, but it would be unreasonable to file a fraud complaint with the FTC and BBB about it because the marketing material said "ACPI" on it. Of course, unlike Foxconn, Toshiba has an engineering information request and Linux support site.
