Open Source / Free (as in speech) Nvidia drivers
There is a pledge and it needs 300 more people to meet its goal for the open source nvidia driver. Although money won’t fix the problem, it sure won’t hurt, and we can show there is financial incentive for companies to open source their drivers (as 10,000$ alone can be generated without official support). Check it out.
NB: This is for the open source project, not nvidia itself.

The page you link to is to fund development of the nouveau driver, not to try to buy the rights to the official nvidia driver. Just thought I should make that clear since your post seems to imply it’s money to give nvidia.

Pledgbank has a policy that if all of the people pledges aren’t filled before the deadline, it is cancelled. With less than a month to go, let as many people know about this and how important it is to free / open source software. If nothing else, this could fund one of the developers like Dave Arlie fulltime for awhile and let them work on oss nvidia drivers. Think about how cool that would be…
Keep up the blogging and thanks for letting more people know. (no, I am not affiliated with this project)

This pledge is a neat idea. I have similar idea to encourage graphic-card makers to open source their drivers.
The idea is to create a pledge that you will purchase your next video card from the first major vendor to completely open source their drivers. (“Major” means ATI or Nvidia. Intel currently only sells graphics that are integrated into a motherboard.)
This would not require a large expense for users, since they will be purchasing a card anyway. Therefore it should receive a lot of pledges, and hopefully will become large enough for a vendor to take notice.
What do you think?
